Personal Injury
We'll talk about Auto Accidents.
Automobile accidents are quite common and claim the lives of thousands of defensive drivers like yourself annually. Auto accidents are also the cause of millions of simpler and/or serious injuries every year. Most auto accidents occur due to the negligence of other drivers. Drugs and alcohol commonly contribute to major auto accidents throughout the United States. Most auto accidents, regardless of how minor they appear, lead to short term and long term injury. You may notice an injury at the scene of the accident, but even the slightest accident can have adverse effects in the future. It is important in the case of an accident, serious or not, that you consult a physician promptly. Some insurance carriers have strict regulations regarding consulting a doctor within a certain time period. It is important that you do not disregard any unusual symptoms of possible injury after an automobile accident.
What should you do?
The first thing you should do when involved in an accident is to notify the police. Do not move your vehicle, as the position of the vehicles involved in the accident may be necessary to determine who is at fault. Make sure to take notes about the accident and get all information possible (i.e. drivers license numbers, vehicle tag numbers, make and model of the vehicles involved., insurance information, names and addresses of all drivers, passengers, and witnesses involved). Do not sign any documents until you have consulted a qualified attorney to assist you. If you are noticeably injured in the accident you will often be taken to a hospital for treatment immediately. If you are not seriously injured you should contact a physician as soon as possible. You should also contact your insurance company immediately after the incident. If you are not at fault for the accident find out if the other party involved claimed responsibility for the incident. When the accident occurs, if you have a camera you should take as many pictures as possible of the damage to all vehicles involved in the accident as well as any other evidence such as street signs, license plates, etc.. If you do not have a camera you should have someone purchase a disposable camera for you. You should consult a Personal Injury attorney, after the accident, to make sure you get all compensation necessary.
